1. Add a new scene
Note:
We'll be using the new scene as our Overlay Scene.
For this example, I am adding an empty scene.
User Preference menu >> SCE box
ADD NEW
Add scene
Empty
Give it a unique name

2. Add a camera to the Overlay Scene
Note:
The overlay scene must have camera.
Note:
It doesn't matter where you position the camera
Add camera
User Preference menu >> Add >> Camera
or
Spacebar >> Add >> Camera
Set Camera position
Transform Properties
N key
or
3D View menu >> Obect >> Transform Properties
Camera Position
LocX = 0.00
LocY = 0.00
LocZ = 2.00
Camera Rotation
RotX = 0.00
RotY = 0.00
RotZ = 0.00

3. Add the item(s) to the Overlay Scene in front of the camera
Note:
For this example, I'm adding a weapon's reticle.
Camera view
3D View menu >> View >> Camera

NumPad 0
Position item(s)

4. Add a sensor
Note:
For this example, I'm using an Keyboard sensor and I'm attaching the sensor/controller/actuator to the active camera.
Switch back to Main Scene. Select Active Camera
Buttons Window menu >> Logic (F4)

5. Add a Controller
Note:
For this example, I'm using an AND Controller.

6. Add an Overlay Scene Actuator

7. Connect the Sensor >> Controller >> Actuator

Pull wire from brass bump to brass dimple

8. Start game engine
P key
